Fellowship Program

Announcements

September 6, 2023
We're very excited to announce that Hunan Vathin Medical has donated $10,000 USD to sponsor IPI fellows to help with costs while undergoing their training in Liv Hospital, Istanbul.

About the Program

In a landmark collaboration between the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP) and LIV Hospital, Istanbul, the first Interventional Pulmonology Institute (IPI) has been launched. This initiative brings together leading experts from across the globe to deliver an unrivaled training program in interventional pulmonology. The IPI is committed to providing free, high-quality education to doctors from developing countries, aiming to foster knowledge exchange and skill development without geographical or political boundaries.

Applying for the Fellowship

The WABIP-IPI Interventional Pulmonology (IP) Fellowship Program is open to pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons worldwide. The fellowship begins on October 1st, 2023, with new opportunities every three months. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • For October 1st Start: Apply by July 1st
  • For January 1st Start: Apply by September 1st
  • For April 1st Start: Apply by December 1st
  • For July 1st Start and October 1st Start: Apply by February 1st

Applications are currently closed for our 2024 program.

Education and Training

The fellowship is a three-month intensive program, with fellows expected to remain in Istanbul for the duration. Training will be conducted by an international faculty, and fellows will receive limited malpractice coverage from LIV Hospital and a temporary trainee license from Istinye University, Istanbul. A pre-fellowship training package, including a reading list, procedural videos, and review material, will be provided to all accepted fellows.

Fee and Expenses

While there is no fee for the fellowship, participants will be responsible for their living expenses, including flights, accommodation, and food. Fellows should secure health insurance coverage for their stay in Turkey. No salary or financial support is provided by the IPI or LIV Hospital, so we encourage applicants to seek support from their respective governments, hospitals, or industry grants and scholarships.

Visa Information

The IPI will provide accepted fellows with a letter of acceptance to support their Turkish visa application. Applicants are advised to apply for their visa at least three months in advance to ensure timely processing.

Certification and Conduct

Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will undergo testing to assess their skills and knowledge gained during the program. Passing both the didactic and skills tests is required to receive the certificate of completion of the IP Fellowship at the WABIP-IPI. This certificate does not confer the right to practice IP procedures independently; local credentialing and licensing requirements must still be met.

Fellows must adhere to the code of conduct of LIV Hospital and respect all institutional rules and regulations. Any violation could result in expulsion from the program.

The IPI Fellowship Program offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn from world-class faculty, develop critical skills, and join a global community committed to elevating healthcare standards. We look forward to your application and participation in this transformative experience.
