It is with great pleasure to inform you that the WABIP has a very successful year in gaining new members, establishing new projects and grants, hosting the successful WCBIP 2018 in Rochester and promoting IP worldwide. Here are some WABIP highlights in the past 12 months:

  • 600 new members, thus bringing the total to over 8,500 WABIP members
  • Offering two new travel grants for WABIP members
  • New webinar project initiatives regarding COPD and ILD treatments with regard to IP
  • Bronchoscopy co-sponsored courses held in 2018: Brazil, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Algeria and New Zealand
  • Very active social media presence with continuing growth of followers
  • Preparations are running smoothly for the 21st WCBIP congress, to be held in April 2020 in Shanghai China
  • Further growth of the WABIP Academy with more items in the Literature and Images sections (see www.wabipacademy.com)
  • Increased WABIP presence in regional society congresses. Please join us for the APCB 2019 and the ECBIP 2019
  • Continuation and growth of official journals: Respirology, Respiration, and JOBIP

I hope that with your continued support, we will continue to grow the WABIP in 2019. We are committed to the use of new technologies to improve physician performance and communication so that patients may more rapidly benefit from the increasing number of medical and surgical procedures available for the diagnosis and treatment of airway, lung, esophageal and pleural diseases.

On behalf of the WABIP Executive Board, I wish you very happy holidays, and most certainly a very joyous and prosperous 2019. We look forward to your continued collaboration and support to promote IP worldwide, into the new year.

Silvia Quadrelli, M.D., PhD
Chair of the WABIP
