Research and Clinical Innovation are designed to recognize young researchers and clinicians whose work significantly contributes to bronchology-related patient care, research, or technological innovations. Three equal awards of $1,000 each are given at the biennial <i>World Congress for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology<\/i> (WCBIP). These funds are intended to help offset costs for attending the WCBIP.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wa-actions\"><a class=\"wa-btn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wcbip.org\/abstracts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abstract submission guidelines<\/a><a class=\"wa-btn ghost\" href=\"\/awards\/\">All WABIP awards<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-row\">\n<div class=\"wa-card\">\n<h3 class=\"wa-title\">How to apply<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"wa-steps\">\n<li>Submit a written abstract for the WCBIP at the official WCBIP website.<\/li>\n<li>On the abstract submission form, click the \u201cApply for Becker award\u201d checkbox.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"wa-actions\"><a class=\"wa-btn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wcbip.org\/abstracts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abstract submission guidelines<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-card\">\n<h3 class=\"wa-title\">Description of the awards<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wa-list\">\n<li>Three award recipients will each receive $1,000 to help offset costs of attending the WCBIP.<\/li>\n<li>Each award recipient will receive a specially framed award certificate.<\/li>\n<li>Awardees will be recognized in the WCBIP\/WCBE program, opening ceremony, and WABIP website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-card\">\n<h3 class=\"wa-title\">Eligibility criteria<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wa-checks\">\n<li>Submission of a written abstract for WCBIP.<\/li>\n<li>Eligible abstracts include original prospective or retrospective clinical studies, basic science, or translational research, case-based series, innovative technical descriptions of a procedure or case reports. Abstracts can be up to 400 words and include one table or figure and three references; the title, author affiliations, author titles, tables\/figures and references do not count towards the 400 word limit.<\/li>\n<li>Investigator\/clinician must be the primary author of the submitted abstract.<\/li>\n<li>Investigator\/clinician must be under or equal to age 40.<\/li>\n<li>Investigator\/clinician must attend the WCBIP to receive the award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-card\">\n<h3 class=\"wa-title\">Judging criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Eligible abstracts will be reviewed by the WABIP Awards committee (committee members from the investigator\/clinician\u2019s home institution will abstain from the discussion and voting) and judged according to five criteria:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wa-criteria\">\n<li>Innovation<\/li>\n<li>Impact on a procedure or patient outcome<\/li>\n<li>Presentation of data<\/li>\n<li>Complexity<\/li>\n<li>Impact on medical practice environment<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-card\">\n<h3 class=\"wa-title\">Prior recipients<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wa-recipients\">\n<li><b>2018<\/b>Liyan Bo, Alex Chee, Yu Chen<\/li>\n<li><b>2016<\/b>Rosaria Carrinola, Melissa Suter, Bojan Zaric<\/li>\n<li><b>2014<\/b>Adrian Kee, Takahiro Nakajima, Mireia Serra-Fortuny<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wa-note\">\n<p><strong>About Heinrich Becker<\/strong>Heinrich Becker, MD, FCCP (retired, Thoraxklinik at Heidelberg University) began his career as an internist specialized in gastrointestinal diseases. A second career as a pulmonologist further expanded his interests in GI endoscopy and bronchoscopy.
