The WABIP is a not-for-profit medical association with its central offices registered in Japan. Its role is to serve as an umbrella organization that unites national and regional bronchology associations and groups with a common purpose of enhancing patient care, research and education in bronchology and related fields.

Major benefits of society membership in the WABIP are reduced registration fees at the biennial World Congress for Bronchology and Bronchoesophagology and other WABIP-endorsed educational programs, financial and/or material support for regional society or university-based educational programs using WABIP-endorsed educational materials and/or faculty, representation on the WABIP Board of Regents and other governing bodies, subscription to the semi-annual WABIP eNewsletter, and subscription to the official journals of the WABIP.
